CT Vietnam War Whistleblower to Speak at Veteran's Group Gathering

CT VIETNAM WAR WHISTLEBLOWER TO SPEAK AT VETERAN’S GROUP GATHERING

- ASSISTED LIVING SERVICES SECURES FORMER NAVAL OFFICER JOHN WHITE FOR MONTHLY MEETING-

A group of military veterans who gather each month at the Wallingford Senior Center will hear firsthand from the Connecticut whistleblower who revealed the deception that launched the Vietnam War. John White of Cheshire is an internationally renowned author whose letter to the editor in 1967 described the true facts of the Gulf of Tonkin incident that started the war. He will share his incredible story at the Veteran’s Coffee House on Tuesday, August 29th at 10:00am.

The popular Veteran’s meeting was developed by Mark Halliday, the Community Liaison for Assisted Living Services, in conjunction with the Wallingford Senior Center. Halliday has always had great respect and deep admiration for veterans and wanted to give them a chance to get together on a casual basis for coffee, pastries and muffins. The response has been incredible.

“At the last event there were nearly 30 men and women of various ages in attendance for a presentation about a Medal of Honor recipient,” said Halliday. “At each gathering we have a presentation followed by a discussion. We introduce new members to the group then they all describe their service to our country.”

Halliday expects a record crowd to hear Mr. White’s lecture. White served four years in the U.S. military as a naval officer, primarily in antisubmarine warfare and nuclear weaponry. It was in that role aboard the seaplane tender USS Pine Island that he heard classified radio messages on the night of the claimed attack, August 4, 1964. White shared the true events of that fateful night in a letter to the New Haven Register. He accused President Johnson, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff of giving false information to Congress in their report about American destroyers being attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin. The letter appeared on December 6, 1967. It received worldwide attention.

White explained his intentions. “I became active in the anti-war movement as a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I thought I could help the anti-war effort and my country by undercutting the foundation on which the war was conducted — namely, the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.”

White is active in veterans affairs. He has published 19 books about the human mind, spirituality and their relationship to social and political affairs. In addition to The Gulf of Tonkin Events – Fifty Years Later, other books include The Meeting of Science and Spirit, What Is Enlightenment?, A Practical Guide to Death and Dying, America, Freedom and Enlightenment, and The UFO Experience. His forthcoming books are The Pledge of Allegiance & The Star-Spangled Banner and Enlightenment 101: A Guide to God-Realization and Higher Human Culture. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest, and many other newspapers and magazines. His books have been translated into ten languages.

He also served as the President of Alpha Logics, a Connecticut school for self-directed growth in body, mind and spirit.

“It’s fantastic that Mark was able to secure such a high-powered speaker for his monthly meeting,” stated Ron D’Aquila RN, co-owner of Assisted Living Services. "Our hats are off to him for his superb idea to create the group as a way to give something back to those that gave so much.”
