The Praying Mantis: Official State Insect of Connecticut

The Praying Mantis: Official State Insect of Connecticut - I just love when I get a visit from a Praying Mantis! Did you know that in ancient times they were thought to have supernatural powers? This is Penelope, she has been in my backyard for a few days - I asked her to weed my garden, but alas no luck yet...however she's taking care of the bugs!!!!

Thanks for visiting my page, more on the Mantis below! Very interesting!

Interesting history of the MANTIS! CLICK HERE

The European praying mantis is a beneficial insect for farmers and a symbol of the importance of the natural environment. "Mantis" is a Greek word meaning "prophet" or "diviner" (while hunting, the praying mantis stands motionless with its special front legs raised in seeming meditation).
