Earlier this week, a 12-year-old girl in Richmond Hill, Georgia, helped save her family after running into her burning home to warn her brothers. The fire broke out just before 3 p.m. on Monday, sending flames through the garage and smoke into the home while Macy Johnson’s brothers were inside and unaware. Macy, who had just gotten home from school, rushed to the front door and yelled for them to get out.
The warning allowed her two older brothers, one who’d been sleeping and the other who was in the shower, to escape safely. After getting out, one brother went back inside to rescue the family’s dog, carrying it out to safety. Fire crews responded and were able to get the fire under control, but the home was left severely damaged and unsafe to live in.
The Johnson family lost most of their belongings, including furniture, clothing, and household items, and they are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Macy’s mom, Lisa Johnson, says she is proud of her daughter’s actions and credits her quick thinking with saving lives.
