File This: Tax day is Wednesday July 15, 2020

File This: Tax day is Wednesday July 15, 2020. Federal and State both due this week and millions of Americans have yet to file!

The IRS extended the filing window by three months due to COVID-19 – but now the filing date is upon on this Wed July 15th.

First and foremost, if you have not filed yet, you are not alone.

The IRS said the agency issued about 10 percent fewer tax returns this year, which means millions of Americans took advantage of the extension.

Wednesday is also the Connecticut state tax deadline.

The best bet is to file tax return online.

People can complete the entire process from the safety of their own home and filing digitally will even help get a return faster.

At the state level, the Department of Revenue Services will be answering its phone lines and helping folks through its website, but keep in mind its offices are closed to walk-ins because of COVID-19.

For the fastest information, the IRS recommends finding answers to your tax questions online. You can also call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or TTY: 1-800-829-4059.

Tax payers wishing to contact the IRS or the DRS directly can do so by either emailing them at DRS@po.state.ct.us or by calling 860-297-5962 during normal business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Those who are hearing impaired can contact the DRS at 860-297-4911.
