Governor Brown Addresses California Wildfires As Trump Tweets Support

  • At last check, the death toll has risen to 59 – between the Camp and Woolsey Fires. Officials with Cal Fire, report that the Camp Fire has scorched 138-thousand acres and at present, is 35% contained. The Woolsey Fire has destroyed 98,362 acres and stands at 52% contained.

CA Burns As President Trump Approves Major Disaster Declaration

California’s Camp Fire is now the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history. This, as officials have confirmed the death toll climbing to 42 Monday after authorities recovered 13 more bodies. The Camp Fire overtakes the 1933 Griffith Park Fire as the deadliest on record in the state.

Fire officials say the fire near Chico, California has grown to at least 117-thousand acres and at last check, is 30-percent contained. About 52-thousand people remain evacuated with over 13-hundred people in shelters. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said more search and rescue teams and cadaver dogs are being requested to find more fire victims.

And while he may have started off snarking at the situation, President Trump has now approved a major disaster declaration for the state as it battles several devastating wildfires. “I just approved an expedited request for a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of California,” he noted via Twitter. “Wanted to respond quickly in order to alleviate some of the incredible suffering going on. I am with you all the way. God Bless all of the victims and families affected.” With seven-thousand homes gone and hundreds of people missing, there certainly are plenty of those.

  • Speaking of help, private people with deep pockets are already stepping up to see how they can help. A number of celebrities, including Kanye and Kim Kardashian West, Sandra Bullock and Jaime King are already putting their money where their tweeting fingers are.

  • Meanwhile, air quality is a major concern for anyone in California. Elon Musk is offering to help with the wildfires raging across California – but not with money, with tech. Touting the fact that the Tesla Model S and X have "hospital grade HEPA filters," he thinks they could be used to transport people affected by the wildfires. While many on Twitter agreed Tesla's do have excellent air filtration systems, Cal Fire and others encouraged Musk to work on solar and battery power as alternatives to overhead power transmission lines.

As the California wildfires continue to spread, there are a number of ways you can help the victims of the fires and those fighting to stop it.

1) Donate Money

The easiest way to help victims of the California forest fires, especially if you don't live nearby, is to donate money to local, regional, and national organizations helping with relief efforts. Here are some of those organizations:

2) Offer Shelter

If you do live in the immediate area, you can partner with Airbnb to donate a spare room for those who were forced to evacuate their homes. Both displaced neighbors and relief workers deployed to help with the fires will be able to find free accommodations until Nov. 29, 2018.

3) Help Rescue Animals

Many families are sadly forced to leave their beloved pets behind during the spread of wildfires, however,  the Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation does their best to rescue as many animals from the fires as possible. You can help their efforts by donating.

4) Collect and Donate Non-Perishable Food Items

The Salvation Army Ventura Corps is providing food and shelter to those displaced during the wildfires, as well as to relief workers. You can collect and donate non-perishable food items to help them keep everybody fed.

REO Speedwagon Is Doing Duel Benefit Concerts For Thousand Oaks Fire And Shooting Victims - A classic rock band is turning its January gig in Thousand Oaks into a benefit concert.

REO Speedwagon says they're also adding another show, all to help those affected by the Borderline shooting and two devastating wildfires. Lead singer Kevin Cronin of Westlake Village says a sense of bonding is natural after a disaster, but it's even stronger when it happens close to home.

His twin sons, Josh and Shane are in a band called Sir, Please that played Borderline shortly before the attack and will open for REO Speedwagon at both Thousand Oaks concerts.
