RIP Dick Dale, Passes Away At 81

The King of Surf Guitar himself,Dick Dale, has passed away at the age of 81. He’s been open about his struggles with a number of health issues over the years, continuing to tour despite battles with diabetes, a damaged vertebrae, cancer and more.

Besides every surf rock band ever, he’s credited as the inspiration behind legendary guitarists like Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. His classic track “Misirlou” was notably used in the opening credits of Quentin Tarantino’s film “Pulp Fiction.”

He was the first guitarist to have a bigger amp made especially for him by Fender, because he'd blow the other ones out..

Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson is among the first to pay tribute to the guitar legend. “Dick’s guitar playing was a big influence on all of us, and we covered ‘Misirlou’ on our Surfin’ USA album in ‘63,” he writes on Twitter.“Love & Mercy to Dick’s family.”
