Ernie Andrus has just started a very ambitious journey. He’s running across the country and set off from Saint Simons Island, Georgia to make it happen. It’s a huge accomplishment for anyone, but it’s even more impressive when you find out Ernie is 95 years old and this will be his second cross-country run.
Back in 2016, Ernie was a spry 93 when he became the oldest person ever to run across America. He made it from San Diego, California to that beach in Georgia where he just began his second go. The World War II veteran has been feeling like his glory days were behind him after that celebrated run, so he decided to do it all again.
His last run took three years, but Ernie is realistic and expects this one to take a little longer. He hopes to reach San Diego sometime after he turns 100, so he’s got five years to make it happen. Eternally an optimist, Ernie says, “I’ve got all the runs planned clear up to 2025.”
