A Pittsburgh Penguins fan who desperately needed to find a kidney donor has found her match thanks to a sign she held up at a game earlier this year. Kelly Sowatsky was determined to find someone who could give her a kidney so she wrote it all on a sign she held at the game and another Penguins fan spotted it and felt moved to help.
Jeff Lynd, a fellow teacher and Penguins fan from Delaware, sent Kelly a Facebook message and offered to get tested as a donor. He turned out to be A positive, the perfect match for her. Now, nine months later, Kelly has a new kidney thanks to her new hockey-loving buddy, who she calls her hero.
“What he’s done for me is something that words can’t express really, like the gratitude that I have," Sowatsky says of Lynd. "I just have a higher regard for the chance I have been given.”
