The wreckage of a World War II plane that crashed 72 years ago has been unearthed in Switzerland, following the effects of a heat wave.
The American C-53 Skytrooper crash-landed on a glacier in the Swiss Alps back in 1946. All eight passengers and the four crew members were rescued four days after the crash -- but the plane remained buried … until now.
Over the past five years, the glacier has been melting -- and it’s gotten to the point where explorers have been able to get at it and, more importantly, make sure it remains safe and secure.
Archaeologists are now trying to figure out how to salvage the historic relics that remain at the site.
