Guy Blinded By Gunshot Competes In Ironman Race

Scott Leason was blinded 25 years ago when he tried to stop a gunman during a convenience store robbery and now the 63-year-old has crossed the finish line at an Ironman event. The San Diego resident was met with cheers and encouragement when he completed the extremely challenging event.

Leason finished the Ironman Oceanside triathlon as part of a relay team and with the help of a guide, he did the 26.22-mile marathon and crossed the finish line after two other team members did the 2.4-mile swim and the 112-mile bicycle ride. He says he hit rock bottom after he lost his sight in the shooting and exercise really helped him turn his life around.

"Of course, when you finish, it feels awesome because it's so long," Leason says. "At 63 years old, I think I did pretty decent."
