It’s now the prime eating and drinking season between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. Yale culinary medicine expert, Nate Wood, has a few tips to keep in mind during the holiday season.
- Instead of cutting out food, go the other way and expand your options. When the table is filled with unhealthy offerings, that’s all you’re going to eat. By adding a few healthy options to the menu, you won’t fill up exclusively on junk food, and some of the healthy stuff will make the cut.
- Load up on fruits and veggies to help offset the amount of other food your gut will have room for.
- Don’t skimp on the hydration… and we mean water.
- Ham is a popular main course, but it’s super processed, and prime rib is loaded with saturated fat. Go for the turkey or chicken instead.
- If you’ve got to go for the ham, remember to control the portion size, and follow with some vegetables. Sweet potatoes, baked or whipped, are a great choice.ac
Don’t get so focused on staying good with your diet that you forget to have fun, though!
