Self-described “superagers,” David Cravit and Larry Wolf, shared the secret to getting older without feeling old. Superagers are older adults with exceptional cognitive and physical health, defying typical age-related decline. In their new book, Cravit and Wolf revealed the seven steps that can make you feel decades younger while living a healthier and more fulfilling life.
- Attitude: Maintaining a positive outlook and a clear vision of the future will help you age with grace and serves as the foundation for a happy and healthy life. Superagers have a lot they want to complete, and they trust they have time to do it all. This, of course, doesn’t mean avoiding health or mobility challenges; however, it means staying blessed, optimistic, positive, and grateful for everything you have.
- Awareness: Gathering, analyzing, and critically evaluating information is another secret to feeling young. Superagers take a deliberate and methodical approach to gathering information, rather than accepting information at face value.
- Activity: Exercising the body and the mind is essential to feeling younger. Superagers try new innovations in nutrition, fitness, brain health, and wellness. This provides a sense of accomplishment, which contributes to their positive attitude.
- Autonomy: Superagers value their physical independence, including living in their own homes and having control over their finances.
- Accomplishment: Achievements don’t stop with age! Working, volunteering, and strengthening relationships give superagers a sense of accomplishment.
- Attachment: It’s essential to foster relationships and form new ones, as loneliness and social isolation can have severe consequences for one's health and lifespan.
- Avoidance: Superagers avoid ageism in the marketplace, fraud, and scams.
