Betsy Walsh, Director of Development at Malta House of Care, joins us live at the Travelers Championship. Malta House of Care has been a vital lifeline for uninsured adults in Greater Hartford for the past 19 years, offering free primary health care through both a mobile medical van and a fixed clinic in the Asylum Hill neighborhood. Their services are open to anyone 18 or older who lacks insurance and can provide a photo ID. With a small clinical team and over 50 dedicated medical volunteers, they deliver essential care to patients with chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma.
The need is growing, with uninsured rates reaching 10% in Hartford and 15% in East Hartford, where Malta House is preparing to open a new location. Betsy shares that over 85,000 patient visits have taken place since the clinic began, made possible entirely through philanthropy. Thanks to Birdies for Charity, every dollar raised brings in an extra 15 cents from Webster Bank.
