Many communities are mourning the loss of beloved former teacher and principal, Kristin Vollero, after her passing on Christmas Eve morning.
Vollero, 47, was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago.
Vollero’s education career included St. Bernadette Parochial School, New Haven Public Schools, North Haven Public Schools, and Wallingford Public Schools. She has been the principal at Pond Hill Elementary School in Wallingford for the past five years.
300 of Vollero’s family, friends, and community honored Kristin Vollero with a candlelight vigil on Monday, January 2nd at Pond Hill Elementary School. Multiple people honoring her at the vigil called Vollero a “role model”, “a guiding light” and “an important part of the Pond Hill story,” according to a New Haven Register article. The article also shared that the community gathered and sang “Piano Man”, a favorite of the late principal.
Many people spoke at the vigil, including Kristin’s father Joe Toscano, and her husband Sal Vollero. The Register article quoted Sal saying, “Kristin always guided me, she was always a guiding light for me to do what’s right.” He continued, “Let her guide you in upcoming years, days, nights. Whenever you need her, just think of her, please.”
