Meet Kirby! An Outgoing Pup Hoping to Find His Forever Home!

Are you looking for a new fur family member? One that can check all the boxes (walking partner, car ride copilot, and affectionate foot warmer)? Stop, and look no further than Kirby! He is an outgoing, friendly 8 year old Labrador Retriever/Pitbull mix (likely with some German Shepherd in there for good measure) and is an incredible sweetheart of a mutt. He has become a volunteer favorite at Protectors of Animals, but after 5 months at our shelter, we are all still shocked that he has had no adoptive interest. It's time for Kirby to find the furever home that he deserves!

Kirby came to us quite overweight, however, he is now on a good diet and exercise plan and has already shed 12lbs from his 90lb, big boy frame. He is well on his way to his "high school quarterback weight" of 70lbs! Kirby seems "reborn" now that he is so much lighter on his feet - he is a silly, goofy boy that loves to zoom around, kicking up his heels chasing tennis balls (and jumping up for love). He REALLY enjoys his daily walks and car rides, but also enjoys relaxing, stretching out, and taking a luxurious nap (the best blend of active and calm you could ask for!). Kirby LOVES people and getting pets, praise, and attention - his favorite things in the world are butt scritches and scratches, and his favorite treats are green beans! Kirby will do best in an adult home or one with dog savvy older teenagers. He would not mind sharing his home with cats! He is 100% housebroken and solidly knows many basic commands as well. Kirby wants to be the only dog in the home so he can be the spoiled, only doggy fur-child! For more information about how to make Kirby your next 4-legged family member, please contact Tracey at tracey.d@poainc.org.
