• Summer Camp RECreate:
Newington Parks and Recreation’s Summer Camp RECreate is for children entering Kindergarten through Grade 8. It begins on Monday, June 21st and runs in weekly sessions thru Friday, August 6th from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Children entering Kindergarten through grade 3 are at the Mill Pond Park location and children entering grades 4-8 are at the Churchill Park location. The weekly themes are as follows: Week 1 – Around the World, Week 2 – Super Sports, Week 3 – Awesome Animals, Week 4 – Carnival Week, Week 5 – Water Wars, Week 6 – Music Week, Week 7 – Amazing Adventures. The current fee for Newington residents is $230 per week or $1,127 for all seven weeks. The current fee for non-residents is $288 per week or $1,409 for all seven weeks. If registering multiple children for Summer Camp RECreate, the second child receives a 10% discount and the third child (and above) receives a 20% discount. The registration price includes a Summer Camp RECreate t-shirt, field trips and entertainers, swim lessons and recreational swim, tennis and dance lessons, cookouts, pizza parties, and more!
• Summer Sunshine:
Newington Parks and Recreation’s Summer Sunshine Program is for preschool-aged children, ages 3 and 4. It begins on Monday, June 21st and runs in weekly sessions thru Friday, August 6th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Families can select a 2-day, 3-day, or 5-day program each week. Children will enjoy using the brand-new Maureen Romano Preschool Room, located in the Mortensen Community Center. The weekly themes are as follows: Week 1 – On the Farm, Week 2 – Spirit of the USA, Week 3 – Amazing Heroes, Week 4 – Under the Sea, Week 5 – Christmas in July, Week 6 – Our Solar System, Week 7 – Greatest Show on Earth. The current fee for Newington residents is $79.00 per week for the 2-day program, $120.00 per week for the 3-day program, and $199.00 per week for the 5-day program. The current fee for non-residents is $87.00 per week for the 2-day program, $132.00 for the 3-day program, and $219.00 per week for the 5-day program. Register for all 7 weeks and save 30% off your total price!
• Creative Playtime Preschool Program:
The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce that the Creative Playtime Preschool Program is now located in the Maureen Romano Preschool Room in the brand-new Mortensen Community Center. Choose from morning, afternoon, or full-day sessions, for one day a week or all five! The hours of the 2021-2022 program are 7:30 am – 12:30 pm for the morning session, 12:30 pm – 5:30 pm for the afternoon session, and 7:30 am – 5:30 pm for the full-day session. The school year begins on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 and ends on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. The program fee is $1,235.00 for each half day and $2,470.00 for each full day. Register your child for one full day and receive $100.00 off your tuition bill. Register your child for two full days and receive $200.00 off your tuition bill. Register your child for three full days and receive $300.00 off your tuition bill. Register your child for four full days and receive $400.00 off your tuition bill. Register your child for five full days and receive $500.00 off your tuition bill. Pay in full and save $200.00 off your total tuition!
• Recreational Swim Times at Churchill Park Pool and Mill Pond Park Pool:
The Town of Newington will be opening both Churchill Park Pool and Mill Pond Park Pool this summer. Both pools open on Saturday, June 19th for the 2021 summer season. The pools are open to the public Monday – Friday from 1:00 pm to 4:45 pm and 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. The hours on Saturday and Sunday are 1:00 pm to 4:45 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Newington residents can purchase an individual pool pass for $75.00 or a household pool pass for $100.00. Pool passes can be purchased at the Newington Parks and Recreation Department, located at 200 Garfield Street. The office hours are Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. For families who do not purchase a pool pass, they can pay the daily rate at the pool entrance. Daily rates are to be paid in cash: $5.00 for adults (18+), $3.00 for children (under 18), and $3.00 for seniors (62+).
• Swim Lessons at Churchill Park Pool and Mill Pond Park Pool:
The Newington Parks and Recreation Department offers swim lessons at both Churchill Park Pool and Mill Pond Park Pool. While the private and semi-private swim lessons are full for the summer season, group lessons are still available for children and adults. The youngest swimmers can begin in the Waterbabies class for children ages 6 months – 2 years, with a parent. Our preschool swim lessons allow children ages 3-5 to participant in swim lessons independently. The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Program Levels 1-6 provide swim instruction for children ages 5-17. The Newington Parks and Recreation Department also offers adult swim lessons at Mill Pond Pool, for adults who would like to learn to swim in an age-appropriate and comfortable environment.
• Summer Concert Series at Mill Pond Park:
The Newington Parks and Recreation Department presents The Edythe and Harry Mandell 2021 Concert Series at The Data Mail Inc. Pavilion at Mill Pond Park. The dates remaining in the Summer Concert Series are as follows:
- Thursday, June 24th @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Rock Solid Alibi
- Thursday, July 1st @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Locomotion
- Thursday, July 8th @ 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm: Shaded Soul

• Mill Pond Park Concession Stand:
The Mill Pond Park Concession Stand is open seven days a week from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It will also be open during the Summer Concert Series on Thursday evenings and special events at Mill Pond Park. Prices for items sold at the concession stand range from $1.00 to $8.00.
• Free Miniature Golf:
Enjoy some fun, for FREE, playing miniature golf at Mill Pond Park! Visit the Mill Pond Park Concession Stand, open daily from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, to get golf clubs and golf balls to play some FREE miniature golf at the Mill Pond Park 9-hole course. It’s fun for all ages!
