The Veterans Memorial Celebration in Newington

The Newington Parks and Recreation Department announces for the first time ever, the Veterans Memorial Celebration and the official unveiling of the Veterans Memorial Trailer. The trailer showcases a 22 ft. long 13 ft. high Veterans Memorial Display, sponsored by Hinding Sports Builders. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. The approximately twenty mile long tour will drive throughout many neighborhoods in town allowing residents to view the 110 Veterans and Active Duty service members being honored.

The Veterans Memorial was built by the Parks and Recreation Staff and will have prerecorded amplified patriotic music constantly playing throughout the entire route. As a special feature, the Newington Parks and Recreation Department hired Dually Noted, a two man band that sounds like a nine piece band, to ride in the back of the pickup truck and play a short live concert right on the street corners of Newington.

Residents are encouraged to invite their families, friends, and neighbors to all come outside their homes, practice social distancing, and sing along with the music. The Newington Parks and Recreation Staff will be handing out mini American flags and ice pops (while supplies last).

This will be the longest and largest veteran’s celebration in Newington and we hope see many of our Newington families out on the streets honoring our veterans! For those who are unable to attend, the Veterans Memorial can be viewed at Mill Pond Park on Thursday, July, 16, 2020 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. during the New England’s Head Over Heels concert.
