A mom in Louisiana who had terminal brain cancer had one last wish: to see her son graduate from high school. But when Monica Anderson’s health took a turn for the worse and her family feared she might not make it until May for graduation, Pineville High School brought a mini graduation to her.
Her husband, Robert, reached out to principal Karl Carpenter, and he arranged everything for the home ceremony within a day. Monica was able to see her son, Landon, get his high school diploma in their living room. The Superintendent and other administrators from the district were there, a school board member brought a graduation cake, and the band director played “Pomp and Circumstance” on her clarinet for the ceremony.
The family is thankful for everyone who pulled it together so quickly to grant her final request. She passed away peacefully at home days later. Robert said, “Monica’s dream has been fulfilled.”
