No one is immune to phishing scams, not even a “Shark Tank” judge.
Barbara Corcoran is not only a shark, but she invests in real estate, So, when an email to ask that she approve a payment for a renovation came, her assistant paid it.
Corcoran explains “I lost the $388,700 as a result of a fake email chain sent to my company. It was an invoice supposedly sent by my assistant to my bookkeeper approving the payment for a real estate renovation. There was no reason to be suspicious as I invest in a lot of real estate.”
It turns out, the hacker had altered the assistant for Corcoran. That’s why the scam worked. Barbara’s taking it well.
