Steve Irwin, also known as “The Crocodile Hunter,” was an Australian zookeeper, wildlife expert, and environmentalist who passed away in 2006, but his family is continuing his life’s work with animals. His widow,Terri, daughter Bindi and son Robert now own and operate the Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital, where they recently saved their 90,000th patient.
The family is now working to help animals that are victims of the ongoing wildfires devastating Australia. Along with hundreds of grey-headed flying foxes, a species listed as vulnerable, who have been flown to their hospital for treatment from the fire, Robert shared anInstagram post about their 90,000th patient, an orphaned platypus they named “Ollie.”
“Ollie is receiving round the clock care until he can be released back to the wild,” he writes, adding, “With pressures from drought to bushfires, wildlife need our help now more than ever.”
