One year ago, open-water swimmer Sarah Thomas of Colorado completed treatment for breast cancer. Soon after beating the disease, she set her sights on a new challenge … Swimming across the English Channel. Four times. Without stopping.
Well, earlier this week, she did it, becoming the first person in the world to accomplish the feat.
To get back and forth -- and then back and forth again -- across the English Channel, Sarah was in the water for more than 54 hours.
She said the hardest part of the challenge was dealing with the salt water, explaining that she was “losing her voice.”
But, the victory was extra special because had dedicated her swim to other cancer survivors out there -- and also those who are still battling the disease. (CBS News)
