Tips to Calm Your Dog Down During Fireworks/Thunderstorms:
- Tire your dog out during the day by walking them or taking them to the park
- Move your dog's crate to the center of the house, away from windows
- Cover the windows with blinds or curtains
- Play the television, radio, or white noise in the background
- Be present with your dog and comfort them
- If you are in public, putting your dog in the car can help them feel more comfortable
Overall:
- It is best to leave your dog at home during fireworks, if possible
- If you need your dog to accompany you, there are vet approved OTC medications, but you must consult your vet weeks in advance
- You can buy your dog/cat a Thundercoat, but consult with your vet before you use this
- Be mindful of your dog and if they do not want to go closer to the noise, do not force them
