Rodney Smith Jr. has done five “tours” of the U.S. to help people in need, like single moms and the disabled, by mowing their yard for free. But on his fifth tour, he focused only on military veterans. The Huntsville, Alabama man started Raising Men Lawn Care Service, which provides free lawn care to those who need help and he says the foundation runs 100% by word of mouth on social media.
Smith announces where he’s going by snapping a selfie with a state sign and after he posts it, he says requests and nominations pour in. He says people donate money for travel and pay for his hotel rooms to keep his good deed trips going. But this last time, it was Delta Airlines who helped get him to the finish line. After tweeting to Delta that he needed two more states to finish his tour, they hooked him up with first class trips to Hawaii and Alaska so he made it to all 50 states to mow for vets.
“This is what I believe my purpose is in life,” Smith says.
