As expected, Barbara Walters announced on The View yesterday that she will be retiring in May 2014. "Let me just say I have been on television continuously for over 50 years. But in the summer of '14 I plan to retire from appearing on television at all,” said the 83-year-old. “It has been an absolutely joyful, rewarding, challenging, fascinating, and occasionally bumpy ride,” adding, “I wouldn’t change a thing. I'm perfectly healthy. This is my decision. This is what I want to do.” For the next year, Walters will continue her duties on The View, and will anchor specials and reports for the network. "I am very happy with my decision," Walters said, "and look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead." She also won’t be completely gone from TV. She’ll still serve as executive producer of The View and possibly make appearances on “special occasions.” Said Barbara, “I’m not walking into the sunset.”

Last week’s a couple who appeared on Jay Leno’s “Pumpcast News” segment became viral sensations when they performed karaoke versions of “Living on a Prayer” and “Sweet Dreams” but it turns out the whole thing may have been faked. According to The Smoking Gun, the couple, Will and Monifa Sims, are actually professionally trained actors from Chicago. Although this doesn’t prove anything, the site does note that Sims appeared on “Pumpcast News” once before, in 2011. Will actually admitted to the Chicago Sun-Times that Leno producers gave them fake job titles so it would look less suspicious. "[The producers] didn’t want [people] to think we were actors and it was a 'plant,'" Will told the paper. "They were like, ‘You’re a bartender and she’s a fitness [trainer].'" But in an interview yesterday, Monifa said it was a fluke that she had appeared on the segment twice, telling The Smoking Gun, “when it happened again, I said, ‘I cannot believe it!!’” Neither can we.

Lindsay Lohan is determined to get out of Betty Ford, but it looks like she’s out of luck. It was reported over the weekend that Lindsay wanted to transfer rehab facilities because doctors at Betty Ford took away her Adderall. Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ she is going “crazy” in rehab and believes Betty Ford is too “old school” for a young person like herself. She’s reportedly found another west coast facility which she believes is suitable, but prosecutors in California are “unbending” and will not let her move. "She had 45 days to find a suitable place. She didn't listen to her people and just did what she wanted so it's her problem now,” claims a source. "Not gonna happen."

Although Matt Lauer was surprised they missed it. “You could have seen it from across the street. It’s a beauty,” he said.

No one can accuse Charlie Sheen of not taking care of his children…at least financially. Radaronline reports Charlie offered to increase child support payments to Denise Richards now that she is taking care of his twin sons while their mom Brooke Mueller is in rehab. Surprisingly, Denise turned him down. “Charlie is extremely generous, and wanted to make sure having the twins in Denise’s care didn’t place a financial strain on her,” said a source. “Denise was thankful for the offer, but declined because she has the financial means to take care of them herself. She isn’t doing this for the money.” Charlie currently pays Denise $55,000 a month for their two daughters Sam and Lola. He pays Brooke the same amount for the boys, Bob and Max.

Meanwhile, Denise Richards was shooting a film in New York over the weekend, which kept her away from her kids on Mother’s Day, but Charlie Sheen made sure the separation didn’t last too long. TMZ reports that Brooke Mueller was so high when she was placed on an involuntary psych hold earlier this month that she was rambling about having “mafia connections.” According to the site, on May 1st a man who was at Brooke’s home called 911 to report an assault and when cops arrived she claimed not only that she had connections to organized crime, but that she was in contact with the FBI about Charlie Sheen, giving them info that would “bring him down.” Her twin sons were at the house at the time, so cops called LA County Department of Children and Family Services and steps were immediately taken to protect the kids and get Brooke to UCLA Medical Center. Sources tell TMZ that it was Adderall, the same ADHD drug that Lindsay Lohan can’t live without, that triggered Brooke’s meltdown.

After weeks of rumors, Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly finally addressed the problems American Idol had this past season. He blamed the ratings decline on the age of the show, as well as some creative changes they made to the format. “More so than any one factor is the age of the show right now, but [also] maybe the format this year,” he said. “We expanded some of the middle rounds, we did a boy-girl thing that went over three weeks — that’s really where the ratings took their biggest hit.” But even though he blamed the decline on this season’s tweaks, he adds there will be more, promising “a few fresh twists…that will be a nice jolt for next season.” As for the judges, when asked if Mariah Carey, Keith Urban or Nicki Minaj will back he said “everything at this point is on the table,” but added it was “likely” the show will return to a three-judge panel instead of four.
