‘Shopping Angels’ Deliver Groceries To The Elderly

A pre-med college student started a free grocery delivery service to help the sick and elderly during the coronavirus outbreak.Jayde Powell, an honor student at the University of Nevada, Reno, got the idea to organize a few volunteers to help those most at risk and created “Shopping Angels.

Some of their clients give their angel a shopping list, budget and money to cover the purchase, others buy groceries online and a shopping angel picks up the order and delivers it. As word has spread, more people want to get involved and bring Shopping Angels to their communities. Powell now has people in Connecticut, Long Island, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Phoenix who want to volunteer. She’s even created a GoFundMe to help those who can’t afford essentials.

Powell says, “We're doing this to try and reach out to people who might feel that they are just completely alone in this situation."
